Plumbers, Pipefitters and Gas Fitters

This group of occupations includes tradespeople who assemble piping systems that deliver water, gas or steam, or take away wastewater. This group includes plumbers, steamfitters, pipefitters, sprinkler system installers, and gas fitters.

  • Successful completion of apprenticeship programs leading to certification in a trade.

Future Prospects:

These occupations will continue to be impacted by natural resource development in the NWT. As a result there will be high employment levels during these projects. Most of these jobs will be medium-term, and fall slightly over the long term.

Approximately 0.8% of workers in this occupational group are women. About 46.0% of employees working in these occupations live in Yellowknife, 34.1% live in the regional centres of Inuvik, Hay River and Fort Smith and 19.8% live in other communities. About 65.9% are employed in the Construction industry and 9.5% in the Real Estate and Rental and Leasing sector.
